FOCUS is “Friends of Overseas Citizens and University Students”, a faith-based coalition of Portland community members, area churches and campus ministries serving Portland State University and area international students and professionals from all religions, worldviews and nations, extending unconditional friendship in the spirit of Jesus of Nazareth.
FOCUS provides a number of services for international students and scholars.
FOCUS Airport Pickups – for international students and scholars who are arriving in Portland for study or research at Portland State University.
FOCUS Homestays – for those who need temporary housing upon arrival in Portland or for those who wish to live with an American family to improve their English or gain a deeper experience of American culture.
Portland Facts – Some helpful links to websites that may answer some of your questions about Portland.
Conversation Partners – for those wanting to improve their English through conversation. Find out more about this service at FOCUS events.
Other FOCUS Services
ESL Classes – for internationals and their spouses or relatives who want to improve their English in a classroom setting.
Tax Workshops – in the Spring, FOCUS conducts tax workshops to assist international students and scholars who are still classified as “non-resident aliens in completing their mandatory tax forms.
